Hangover's open island in a frame from a screen recording of the app: music, a week calendar, to-dos, notes, a file tray and a timer

01 Oct 2026 → Present

Hangover: a free Mac app that turns the notch into a small control surface

Music, calendar, to-dos, notes, weather, a timer, a mirror, a screen recorder, a design kit and a file tray, all in the island at the top of the screen. It is built on Open Island, an open-source app by Octane0411, and I added the widgets page and most of what you see here.

  • Open source, GPL-3.0
  • Swift, SwiftUI, AppKit

SwipeBite: a restaurant finder you swipe through

Every swipe nudges a taste profile, so the next stack of places is a little closer to what you'd actually eat.

A benchmark for whether language models actually handle Spanglish

Bilingual speakers switch languages mid-sentence using rules they never consciously learned. This measures whether a language model follows those rules or just produces something that sounds close.

airwriter: write in the air, and a webcam reads it

Write a number or a letter in the air and a laptop webcam reads it live. It's built from two published papers, and when I measured their claims, four didn't hold up.

geekbeats: a dating app, but for type beats

My friend and I make music, and finding a beat we both liked took forever. Now one beat plays at a time. Swipe right and it lands in my Google Drive as a tagged mp3. Swipe left and it's gone for good.

papeles: an iPhone app that explains English letters in Spanish

Take a photo of an English letter, like a school notice, a medical bill, a lease or a benefits or immigration letter. papeles reads it on the phone, pulls out the deadlines, amounts and next steps, and explains it in plain Spanish. Nothing leaves the phone: no network calls, no backend, no analytics. The screens are designed and the app is being built now.
